Dear DCSD Employee:

I hope you’re enjoying summer break. It’s hard to believe that it is already the middle of July!

As you probably know, on June 30, 2012 the collective bargaining agreements for both the teachers (DCFT) and classified staff (DCFCE) expired after more than 100 hours of negotiations. For more information on the negotiations process, please click here.

Members of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) completed the negotiations process and their contract was approved on May 1, 2012 by the Board of Education. The ATU contract includes a 1% pay increase and a 1% retention bonus – in addition to other changes.

I know you may have questions during this transition period, and we want to provide you with as many answers and as much information as possible. Therefore, to keep you updated and informed we have launched a new web page, located here.

In addition, there are a few important items I would like to mention here.

  • After four plus years of pay freezes, all eligible employees will receive a 1% raise ($2.8 M) for the 2012-2013 school year.
  • All eligible employees will receive a 1% retention stipend ($2.8 M) in September.
  • Although we are phasing out KLA and longevity in an effort to transition to performance-based compensation through career ladders, performance and market increases, and pay-for-performance bonuses, no employee who currently qualifies for or has KLA and/or longevity will lose this compensation. In other words, if you currently qualify for and/or receive KLA and/or longevity pay, you will continue to earn it.
  • The district will be covering the $2.2 M PERA increase for all employees.
  • We are working on a phase out of severance, as these dollars have been reallocated to fund the on-going raise. We believed this would be developed during negotiations. Since it was not, we are working on that now and will publish information as it becomes available. We understand all issues surrounding this topic and are taking them into consideration.
